Most hold on tight! ChatGPT has figured out how to choose the most suitable AI tool for a given task.
We’ve entered the age of the “tool user” in AI terms: artificial intelligence that employs external tools (even other AIs) can learn new things.
I’m curious about the equivalent of the Stone Age, where AI creates a tool for itself to accomplish a task—and that threshold is knocking on our door (just look at the AutoGPT and BabyGPT applications). These autonomous AI agents can generate tasks for themselves, complete them, create new tasks, and even prioritize their to-do lists. AutoGPT and BabyAGI are currently the best examples of autonomous agents. Although BabyAGI uses the term “AGI,” it’s a bit of an overreach for an autonomous agent, as it doesn’t come close to what we might consider AGI.
